Classes of Members

Ordinary Are individuals who normally reside within the island of Ireland.

Overseas Are individuals who normally reside outside the island of Ireland (they have no voting rights).

Honorary are benefactors of the Society and are elected at the AGM of the Society for life (they have no voting rights).

Election of Members A person must submit a signed application form, abide by the rules, pay the appropriate fee and have their application approved at the next Council meeting.

Transfer of Ownership

This form is for the change of ownership for a pony or foal

It is understood that you have purchased the registered Connemara Pony.

Kindly check the particulars on this form and make sure that they refer to the pony purchased by you, then sign the form and return it to the office with remittance and Original Passport / Temporary Foal Certificate.

Please note: This form MUST be signed by the last registered owner of the pony/foal as stated on the documentation before returning to the office.

Before your name may be recorded as owner – it will be necessary for you to pay the transfer fee:

CPBS members: €20.00
Non-members: €40.00

DNA Kits

This for is for registration of the Bloodtyping / DNA sampling & microchipping of foals and ponies.

The following rules apply for registration of foals:

  1. You are requested to complete the downloadable form for each foal.
  2. All foals, their dams and sires must be tested before being accepted for registration in the CPBS Studbook.
  3. The taking of blood/DNA samples from the foal and the dam (if not already bloodtyped/DNA tested) will be done by your local Veterinary Surgeon who will also take the markings.
  4. The blood/DNA sample must be taken when the foal is six weeks or over.
  5. All Stallions on the Society’s Approved List are bloodtyped.
  6. Forms must contain the Registered Name and Stud Book numbers of the Sire and Dam.
  7. All forms for foals must be accompanied by a Covering Certificate from the Registered Stallion owner.
  8. All foals must be Microchipped for identification and named for life at time of bloodtyping/DNA sampling
  9. Return completed forms to The Connemara Pony Society with the appropriate fees. Incomplete forms or forms without covering certificate or fee attached will be returned to the owner for completion.
  10. A Lifetime Document will be issued for each animal when its parentage is verified to the CPBS by Weatherbys Laboratory.

Prefix Registration

This form is for the application for registration / extension of a prefix

Notes: In the event of a dispute the principal owner shall retain ownership of the prefix.

Prefixes must be one work with a minimum of three letters and no hyphens, spaces or apostrophes

Duplicate Passport

This form is for the issuing of duplicate documents

In consideration of the Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society, issuing a Duplicate Passport or Lifetime Document indemnifies against any claims and actions whatsoever arising out of the issuing by the Connemara Pony Breeders Society of a Duplicate Passport or Lifetime Document in respect of a Passport or Temporary Foal Certificate which has been lost by client and which despite exhaustive searches cannot be located. By making this application you are agreeing to return the Duplicate Passport or Lifetime Document to the Connemara Pony Breeders Society should the original be located.

A DNA sampling kit will then be issued by the CPBS to the owner. A blood sample and a marking chart signed by a Vet must be forwarded to Weatherby’s Laboratory for analysis to confirm that the pony to be issued with the duplicate document matches the original sample held by them for that pony. A duplicate document cannot be issued by the Society unless and until these conditions are fully complied with.

Full payment must be made to the CPBS prior to the CPBS undertaking to issue the pony with a Duplicate Document of identification.
