CPBS Merit Scheme 2019

Connemara Merit Scheme takes off the ground Last year, the Connemara Pony Breeders Society introduced a merit award scheme for Connemara ridden and performance ponies registered with the Society and generally not competing in mainstream competitions. It is hoped that this scheme will develop and improve in the coming years and encourage higher entries at shows throughout the country. For the moment a limited number of shows and classes as detailed below are part of the pilot scheme, and the first four places in the Connemara Ridden and Connemara Working Hunter...

Sports Pony Challenge

Sports Pony Challenge. Qualifier. Saturday 11th May 2019 at Galway Equestrian Centre.   6 Classes: - 133 cm ponies. - 143 cm ponies. - 153 cm ponies. - 158 cm ponies. - U16 Connemaras. - O16 Connemaras.   It is a three phase competition: - Dressage. - Performance Working Hunter (Derby style track). - Show jumping.   This competition is a fantastic way to practice for the Performance Connemara classes at the RDS and Clifden.   For further information, please contact Libby Wentges (087 1335380) or Dorothy Guilford (087 2486959). Spring Festival 2019

The Connemara Pony Breeders Spring Weekend is a special time in the Society’s busy calendar year. Last Saturday was the final day of the colt inspections, at which over three days, more than 50 Connemara ponies were presented at centres around the country, with a total of 10 receiving Class 1 stallion status. Twelve international delegates attended an educational seminar on breed type and linear profiling on the Saturday morning. Ruth Rogers receives Special Recognition Award

Veteran photojournalist and Connemara Pony breeding expert Ruth Rogers was presented with a Special Recognition Award for her contribution to the industry at yesterday’s The Irish Field Irish Horse World awards in The K Club, Co Kildare, yesterday (Monday). For over 50 years, Ruth Rogers’s camera has documented Ireland’s racing and sport horse scene. Her early career was spent assisting her father George and uncle, CA Rogers, in breaking and training thoroughbred and show horses.
