Online Stallion Directory

The Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society is compiling a free online approved stallion directory for publication in the autumn of this year.  The directory will be a comprehensive source of Connemara stallions available for service in Ireland (arranged by county) and abroad.  It will contain pedigree information, a linear profile (where applicable), a photograph of each stallion, stallion performance records where available and owner/keeper contact information. There is no charge for inclusion of stallions in the directory and it is an opportunity to advertise your stallion to a very wide audience.   The...

Inspections/Covid-19

Concerning the ongoing implications and gradual lifting of restrictions with regard to the coronavirus pandemic, the viability of holding inspections will continue to be monitored. The Council is hopeful that inspections will be held in the Autumn, subject to restrictions being further eased and that it is possible to put suitable procedures and precautions in place given the pandemic. HWSD and purchasing a pony

HWSD (Hoof Wall Separation Disease), a genetically inherited disorder of the hoof wall which has been diagnosed in a very small percentage of Connemara ponies* is of concern to purchasers and breeders alike, as it affects the welfare of any pony that inherits two copies of this mutated gene and is thereby affected (HWSD/HWSD). By inference if that pony remains in the herd it also affects the overall quality of the herd.
