Open to Class 1 Registered Connemara Ponies

3, 4 & 5 year old Colts & Stallions

at  Creagh Equestrian Centre, Ballinasloe

Application for Colt & Stallion Performance Indicator Assessments

  1. Open to Class 1, three, four & five-year-old HWSD free Connemara colts and stallions (ie.N/N and N/HWSD only). Passports will be inspected on assessment day.
  2. Objectives are to enhance breeding standards, identify sports performance potential, to aid breeders and promote marketing.
  3. Evaluation will be a high profile sports performance judge.
  4. Ponies to be assessed on their movement and jumping ability from a performance perspective and their potential to compete in dressage, show jumping and eventing.
  5. Presentation: All ponies presented for assessment must be sufficiently trained and fit to take part in all aspects of the assessment. Ponies should be in good condition, well-groomed and have well maintained hooves. Presentation must be in a correctly fitted bridle. Ponies are permitted to wear front tendon boots only, for the jumping phase.
  6. A trained arena party will be on hand to direct the pony through its assessment.
  7. Free athleticism Assessment in jumping pen: a jumping lane of three fences will be jumped five times, the first time being a practice run.
  • 3 year olds fences start at 70cm, and a final round not over 90cm high x 90cm wide.
  • 4 year olds fences start at 80cm, and a final round not over 1 m high and 1 m wide.
  • 5 year olds fences start at 90cm, with a final round not over 1.10m H and 1.10m wide.
  1. If in the opinion of the assessment judge the pony is jumping in an unnatural manner or failing to make any attempt to jump, the judge reserves the right to award 0 (zero) points for the assessment.
  2. Following the assessment the handler will be requested to catch their pony and leave the arena.
  3. Scoring. Total 100 points and will be scored as follows:

30 points – functional ability; 10 points – technique; 10 points – attitude;
50 points jumping talent/ potential

  1. Ponies that receive over 75% in their assessment will receive a Bronze merit which will be stamped on their passport and will be recorded on the CPBS Database.
  2. Entries will be professionally photographed and videoed and copies made available to the owner or agent acting on behalf of the owner for enhancement of advertisement in the sale or promotion of the pony, such as in sales rings and advertisement material (printed or electronic) to demonstrate the sports ability of the pony.
