Connemara Pony Sales Report

The 2 day August sales of Connemara ponies took place on Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 with a packed catalogue of 462 lots.  From this number 404 passed through the ring over the 2 days with 297 been sold. The highest overseas number purchased was to the UK, with 32 ponies heading over to our closest neighbors. 31 ponies went to France, 28 to Holland, 24 to Germany, 19 to Spain and 3 to Austria. Highest price over the 2 days was €7,600 which was sold by Christina o Donnell from Gowran in Kilkenny and purchased by Eddie Ahern from Kildare. A 6 year old chestnut registered Connemara gelding with 51 show jumping points. Lot 119 fetched €6,200, a 160 cms 5 year old grey gelding by Western Boy, seller here was Faye o Connor from Malahide in Dublin and buyer Ellis Simister from Scotland. Broken and ridden ponies were much in demand with 23 ponies sold in the bracket of €3,200 to €4,500. There seemed a slight improvement in the prices for fillies and unbroken mares which is good to see.  New improvements to Connemara pony sales yard included the purchasing of 24 permanent outdoor stables.  The next sales to take place in Clifden are on the October bank holiday weekend Commencing on Friday October 26, entries are now been taken for this sale, you can enter online via www.connemaraponysales.com or by calling the office for entry forms on 095 21861
