Pony Importation – Registration Service

Pony Importation – FAQs

Note: DNA applications and Pony importation applications will not be processed unless accompanied with a valid equine premises number – click here for more information>

I have covered my mare with an international stallion can I register the foal with the CPBS?

Yes you can register with the CPBS once the stallion is registered with us.

I have purchased a Connemara Pony abroad can I register him with the CPBS.

Yes. We would strongly recommend that you register all foreign Connemara ponies with the CPBS after importation. If foreign Connemara ponies are not registered with us none of the subsequent off spring can be registered with us either.

What do I need to register my imported Connemara Pony?

This is an application process and applications can be completed online or by paper application. We need the following from the owner:

  • Confirmation of Class from our daughter society that it is registered with.   If the pony has been inspected/classified with the daughter society a copy of the score sheet and veterinary examination to be sent to the CPBS.
  • A DNA Profile from the lab the pony was originally DNA tested with.
  • Complete pedigree from our daughter society
  • You will be required to complete a HWSD application if the pony was born after 2016 https://cpbs.ie/hwsd-form/
  • You will also need to complete a transfer of ownership application https://cpbs.ie/transfer-ownership/

My membership has lapsed what happens now?

At present we can only accept membership payments for the current year.

If you didn’t manage to renew before the 1st of March you can still become a member by resubmitting an application any time during the year. This will go through the same process as a new application and will give you a new membership number.

When is the next council meeting to ratify memberships?

Please check out our events page for scheduled dates. Council meetings are normally scheduled for the first Tuesday in every month. These can change at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances. All memberships will then be ratified at the next council sitting.
