HWSD and purchasing a pony

HWSD (Hoof Wall Separation Disease), a genetically inherited disorder of the hoof wall which has been diagnosed in a very small percentage of Connemara ponies* is of concern to purchasers and breeders alike, as it affects the welfare of any pony that inherits two copies of this mutated gene and is thereby affected (HWSD/HWSD). By inference if that pony remains in the herd it also affects the overall quality of the herd. 2019 Annual General Meeting

The 2019 Connemara Pony Breeders Society AGM will take place on Saturday 7th December at 12 noon in the Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe, Co Galway. Registration desk will open at 10.30am and members are asked to bring their letter of notice with them on the day of the AGM and present to staff at the desk when checking in. CPBS Christmas Show

The annual CPBS Christmas show takes place on Sunday 15th December in Creagh Equestrian centre with showjumping and In-Hand classes on the day.  Showjumping entries are accepted on the day and In-Hand entries must be received in the CPBS by Friday 6th December. Connemara Pony Sales

Three Day Connemara pony sales held in Clifden on the 25th, 26th and 27th October . 840 ponies catalogued over the three days and  726 passed through the ring, 591 sold. Highest price paid was €6,000 for lot 14 sold by Martin Curran from Waterford and bought by Uk buyer also lot 72 sold by John Casey from Co Clare and bought by regular German buyer Hannah Neupartl made €6,000. 2019 Election The review of the electoral roll has been satisfactorily concluded and the ballot for the 2019 election has been reactivated. There are eight candidates for five seats in the Connacht region. Peter Molloy

The CPBS are saddened to learn that the death has taken place of Peter Molloy, Cushatrough, Claddaghduff, Connemara. Peter was a well known breeder and showing enthusiast, His legacy lives on through his world renowned Dooneen Ponies. May he rest in peace!
