The annual 2 day Connemara pony sales were held in Clifden last weekend with a catalogue of 434 entries over the 2 days. This figure was up over 100 lots on the same sale last year. Buyers from UK, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany and Sweden were in attendance along with a high number of Irish and northern buyers. A showjumping competition for registered Connemara ponies will be held on Saturday 4th June at the Showgrounds, Clifden, Co. Galway commencing at 11am. The competition will feature a 70 – 80cms class sponsored by Westside B&B, a 90cms class sponsored by Diamond’s Equine Centre, a 1m class and a 1.10m class. Entries will be taken on the day. A seminar for the CPBS Performance judges will take place in Mullingar Equestrian Centre on Sunday 29th May commencing at 11am. The CPBS Council continued it’s meeting of 3/5/16 on Wednesday evening. It was agreed to run a showjumping competition in Clifden on Saturday 4th June following on from the success of the showjumping at the Spring Festival. It is planned to run a course for those wishing to join the in-hand judges list. The necessary criteria for applicants and the format of the course will be decided at the next Council meeting. The CPBS Council convened for its May meeting yesterday. After five hours where a lot of issues were dealt with it was agreed to reconvene next Wednesday to complete the lengthy agenda. A report on the findings of a recent enquiry into inspections was presented to the Council. The report was adopted by the Council and the three members of the Complaints and Investigation Panel were thanked for the huge amount of time and commitment they put into the process.
