Christmas Weekend Report

The Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society hosted a Christmas weekend in Ballinasloe last weekend. On Saturday a colt foal and a filly foal class took place in Creagh Equestrian Centre. The colt foal class was won by Woodford Diamond (by Kilmore Diamond) owned by Gayle Farrell and the filly foal class was won by Brian Mullen’s Gurteen Maeve (by I Love You Melody). Seventy five ponies competed in four showjumping classes with a total prize fund of €1800. Five ponies jumped clear in the 70 -80cms class. The 90cms class was won...

Education Conference

Yesterdays educational conference provided the CPBS with a host of facts and figures which will certainly impact on its policies in the coming years. There is good news on the inbreeding coefficient in that it hasn't increased in the last ten years and remains at an average of 4.4%. There was very good news on HWSSD in that only 1% of the 230 randomly selected and tested were affected by the disease. The carrier status was more sobering with 19%, being carriers and this will need attention, more details to follow....

Showjumping Success

  The unqualified success of the show jumping programme at the Creagh Christmas Show begs the question why this did not happen before now. Seventy-five ponies jumped in the four competitions, 80, 90, 1m and 1.10, most of them in two competitions. Despite the torrential rain and flooding, the showjumpers seemed to come out of the woodwork for what was somewhat of a watershed in how we market our pony. CPBS Christmas Weekend

The Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society has an exciting weekend planned for Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December. On Saturday the annual Christmas Show will take place in Creagh Equestrian Centre, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. Starting at 11am there will be a colt foal class followed by a filly foal class. Each class features a prize fund of €500. The winner will also receive a Galway Crystal Trophy and Perpetual Plaque. Cul Bán Mistress has achieved phenomenal success in showjumping recently and her owner Clive Swindell will be presented with the 2015 Connemara...
