Change to Wednesday’s Schedule

Please note there is a slight change to Wednesday's schedule. The four year old Performance Mare Final will now commence at 11am. The Green Hunter final will start at 12.30pm and the three year old loose jumping final will start at 2.30pm. Emma Massingale will give an illustrated talk in the Station House Theatre at 4.30pm....

Council Meeting Report

The Council of the CPBS met last night in the Galway Bay Hotel. A minutes silence was observed in memory of the late Lady Hemphill who passed away since the last meeting. In recent years the ridden and working hunter classes have seen a huge surge in entries and it was agreed to look at the schedule and classes after this year’s show. A slight change in the in-hand judges will see Madeleine Beckmann judge the foal classes in addition to the afternoon classes in Ring One and John Harte...

Four Year Old Performance Mare Qualifiers

Qualifiers for the four year old Performance Mare Championship took place on Tuesday night in Boswell Equestrian Centre and last night in Creagh Equestrian Centre. Judge, Gabriel Slattery selected ten mares to go through to the final. Horse Sport Ireland is sponsoring a generous prize fund of €5000 for the final. The final will take place on Wednesday 19th August in Clifden at 10am. EGM Report

An Extraordinary General Meeting of the Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society took place on Friday 17th July in Hayden’s Hotel, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. An overwhelming majority voted in favour of the proposed changes to the Memorandum and Articles. The CPBS wishes to thank all of it’s members who made to effort to travel to Ballinasloe to vote on what is one of the most important days in the history of the Society. Connemara Pony Art Competition

The Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society is delighted to announce the launch of its inaugural Art Competition as part of the Connemara Pony Festival taking place in Clifden, Co. Galway from Sunday 16th to Sunday 23rd August 2015. The subject of the competition is the artist’s interpretation of the Connemara pony. Entries can be in any medium and the competition is open to entrants of all ages. Lady Hemphill

Lady Anne Hemphill   It is with great regret that we hear the sad news of Lady Anne Hemphill’s passing. Predeceased by her husband Peter Patrick, they were both former members of the Council of the CPBS as well as being life-long supporters of the Galway Races and the Galway Blazers. Lady Anne has been breeding and exporting ponies since the early 1960’s and her prefix, “Tulira”, is known in every country in the world where ponies are bred. CPBS Council Meeting Report

The CPBS Council met last night in the Westwood House Hotel. Linear Scoring tutor Michael Kirwan gave an interesting presentation on the use of linear scoring. A panel of twelve inspectors will be trained in Linear Scoring this Autumn and it is hoped to have the scoring system in place for the 2016 inspections. Michael Kirwan, Philip Scott and Jack Doyle will conduct the training. The Marketing committee will produce a short promotional video on the Connemara pony which will be used online.
