Michael Clancy, Graham Tulloch and Paddy King were among the prize winners at Clifden in 1964. At a time when duns proliferated the studbook, Ardnasillagh Honey, Macdara and Lambay Rebel were three good ones that were in the ribbons on the day. The outside blood was popular with Clonkeehan Auratum and Camlin Cicada siring all the young stock winners. Frances Lee Norman swept the boards and Tim Cotter and Tommy Kelly were still in the middle of the ring forty years after they judged their first show at Roundstone in 1924. It was in 1964 also that the studbook was closed. The year however belonged to  Denmark. the Danes (who had been visiting since 795) finally founded their own Connemara Pony Society which has just celebrated its Golden Jubilee. It is a wonderful achievement and we in Ireland are keen to acknowledge the sustained support and enduring friendship of Danish breeders over the last half century. Go raibh mile maith agaibh. Happy New Year to all.
